School Year Kids/Teens 09-10 - Session 5

Hi, Parents:

Tonight we had a pretty nice turnout. Two kids were unable to make it, so we had a total of fourteen. We accepted one last child, “N,” who got along quite well with the other group members. The kids settled into group without difficulties. Tonight, we used the time to spend more time talking as a group. Mostly we talked about what kinds of things they worked on outside of group. For those who were not earning any LUNCH Points, we talked about how they could go about earning them.

The group then went shopping over at Gelson’s, and that was a pleasant experience. “Controlled pandemonium” is probably the best way to describe it, but they were really generally pretty well behaved. Everyone found something to eat, ranging from turkey to sandwiches to macaroni and cheese, tri-tip; you name it. We always try to allow the kids to choose what they want while at the same time encouraging them to maintain some nutritional balance. Four alumni members helped me set up the waiting room, and we turned it into a dining hall with two tables of seven chairs each.

The parents came in at 6:00, and we had one of the best turnouts ever for the parent meeting. Only one parent was unable to attend, and it may have been our error that we did not email that parent about the meeting. Please do check the calendar on a regular basis as we always have the parent meetings posted. There will be a makeup tele-meeting for any families who were not able to attend this evening and/or families who wish to have a second go at the information that we covered. We reviewed how the website works, the LUNCH Points program and introduced the new vacation/my computer doesn’t work addition to LUNCH Points. We also talked about behavior management strategies. If you have any questions, please go ahead and email me, and I will be happy to answer them.

Our next meeting will not be in the office, but will occur at Laser Tag. We will be sending you detailed information about dropoff and pickup.

I hope you had a good holiday, and I look forward to speaking with you soon.
